Gillian Barkins is an Associate at Garfunkel Wild, P.C., which she joined in 2014. She is a member of the Litigation and Arbitration Group. Ms. Barkins advises clients in federal and state court, arbitrations, appeals, hearings, and mediations. Her practice includes litigation of a wide variety of commercial and business issues, including health care, civil rights, and employment cases.
Ms. Barkins has defended clients against various types of employment actions, including harassment and discrimination based on disability, national origin, race, and gender, as well as wrongful discharge and breach of employment contracts. She also represents clients in connection with claims brought before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New York State Division of Human Rights, and the New York City Commission on Human Rights.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Barkins served as a law clerk to the Honorable William R. DeLorenzo, Jr. (ret.) of the Superior Court of New Jersey. After his retirement, she was a law clerk to the Honorable Ronny Jo Siegal of the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Ms. Barkins received her B.A. cum laude, in 2010 from the University of Florida, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. in 2013 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was on the editorial board of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law. She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
