U.S. Department of Labor Raises Salary Threshold for Overtime Exemption

Since 2014, the United States Department of Labor (“DOL”) has been working on updating the regulations governing the exemption of executive, administrative, and professional (“EAP”) employees from the federal minimum wage and overtime requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act. On May 18, 2016, the DOL published the final version of the amendments (the “Final Rule”), which increases the minimum salary/compensation level to qualify as an exempt EAP employee.
