GW's Environmental Practice Group has broad experience to provide advice in all areas of environmental law and regulatory compliance, environmental real estate matters and to take on complex civil and criminal environmental enforcement and litigation.

We represent public and private corporations, lenders and real estate companies, as well as our core group of not-for-profit hospitals and other institutional clients

The Environmental Practice Group advises our clients in the following representative areas:

  • Assisting clients in self-audits and day-to-day environmental and health and safety compliance to comply with governmental regulations
  • Negotiating with regulatory agencies to mitigate violations and enforcement actions
  • Representing clients in environmental disputes and litigation including complicated CERCLA, RCRA, CWA and CAA matters, oil and hazardous material spill litigation, groundwater contamination, wetland and indoor air issues
  • Designing Environmental Compliance Management Systems and drafting standard operating procedures
  • Counseling on compliance and litigating disputes relating to asbestos, lead-paint, storage tanks, regulated waste, nuclear medicine issues, air emissions and waste water discharges as well as legionella and mold
  • Conducting environmental due diligence for corporate and real estate transactions
  • Structuring acquisitions and divestitures of potentially contaminated (Brownfield) properties; construction and / or deconstruction and decommissioning property transactions by negotiating cleanup agreements with federal and state agencies and private contractors, overseeing remediation consultants, and drafting related contracts and agreements
  • Counseling on the adequacy and use of environmental coverage for transactions and forging deal-specific environmental insurance policies
  • Negotiating and drafting land use restrictions and covenants
  • Environmental permitting
