New Jersey Passes Telemedicine & Telehealth Law

September 27, 2017

On July 21, 2017, New Jersey passed a law that specifically allows NJ licensed health care practitioners to: (1) deliver treatment and establish a practitioner/patient relationship through telemedicine, and (2) in many situations, be paid for such services in the same manner as in-person treatment. For many NJ licensed practitioners and mental health screeners, as defined in the new law, this presents a tremendous opportunity to expand their services in an efficient and cost efficient manner, particularly because the new law ensures coverage by, and payment parity for, private payers, state Medicaid and some other health plans.
