New York Nursing Homes to Receive Additional 1% Medicaid Rate Increase
On July 16, 2024, the New York State Department of Health (DOH) announced in a letter to nursing home administrators that nursing homes across the state will receive an additional 1% increase in their Medicaid rate after receiving Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) approval.
In 2023, New York State approved a 7.5% increase in Medicaid rates; however, DOH has only been able to implement a 6.5% increase because CMS approval was needed for the remaining 1% increase. DOH has announced that CMS has granted approval of the 1% increase, allowing DOH to implement the full 7.5% increase to the nursing home Medicaid rate. The 1% increase in the Medicaid rate will be effective April 1, 2023 and thereafter.
Nursing homes can expect to see the increase reflected on the residential health care facility (RHCF) rate sheet on the Miscellaneous Per Diem line and the increase will take effect in cycle #2448 with a release date of August 7, 2024. In order to receive more information on the amounts included in the Miscellaneous Per Diem line, providers can access more details via the Healthcare Financial Data Gateway on the Health Commerce System (HCS).
