New York Hospital/Nursing Home Staffing Legislation Enacted
On June 18, 2021, Governor Cuomo signed into law two bills related to clinical staffing for hospitals and nursing homes. As reported in our prior Alerts, dated May 7, 2021:

- General hospitals must establish a clinical staffing committee by January 1, 2022, and establish an annual clinical staffing plan for each care unit and shift based on patient need. The first staffing plan must be submitted to DOH by July 1, 2022. CLICK HERE to read the full alert.
- By January 1, 2022, nursing homes must establish and post staffing levels that at a minimum provide for daily average staffing of 3.5 hours of care per resident per day, including 2.2 hours of care by a nursing assistant and 1.1 hours of care by a licensed nurse.
