In the February 2020 issue of Skilled Nursing News, Debra Silverman was quoted in the article entitled “SNF Providers Could Find Managed Care Relief By Banding Together in IPAs.”
Ms. Silverman lauded the future of IPAs as a negotiation opportunity for some nursing homes in the Garfunkel Wild webinar “IPAs and Managed Care – What Nursing Homes Need to Know for 2020,” presented on Wednesday, January 29th. Ms. Silverman spoke to Skilled Nursing News for a more in-depth discussion about how and why nursing homes might want to get in on this model as creators or participants.
Ms. Silverman stated “IPAs are creatures of statute. In a state like New Jersey, an IPA would take the structure of an organized delivery system. In Connecticut, you don’t need to have a special license or certification. So it’s a very-state specific concept,” and “They may not even exist; there may be nothing called an IPA in Illinois, just as there’s no such thing as an IPA in New Jersey. All states don’t have the same laws.”
