J. David Morrissy, co-head of the Firm’s Washington, DC Office, is a member of its Real Estate and Construction Group, Employment and Workforce Management Group, and Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Group. David has a unique ability to specialize in three diverse areas of law: combining expansive experience counseling clients through commercial real estate transactions, employment and workplace issues, and complex business litigation. His unique multi-disciplinary perspective allows David to craft efficient, innovative, sophisticated, and comprehensive solutions for clients to manage risk and pinpoint opportunities wherever their business intersects with legal challenges.
David is a tireless advocate for clients engaged in selling, purchasing, financing, developing, and leasing real estate, with a history of navigating transactions efficiently and effectively, delivering highly valued results. David’s devotion to furthering his clients’ business objectives and his collaborative approach have often resulted in the mutually profitable closing of even the most tense and tightly negotiated transactions.
At the same time, David has a history of skillfully counseling employers through external claims and internal investigations regarding all aspects of their business operations, from issues relating to the physical plant of buildings, to website accessibility, to relationships with employees and customers (including allegations of harassment and discrimination based on age, race, gender, national origin, and disability, as well as claims under the Americans With Disabilities Act). David also advises clients on human resources matters, such as reviewing and developing internal policies and procedures, developing and presenting employee leadership training, and entering into employment and separation agreements.
Additionally, while avoiding protracted and costly disputes is always David’s objective, when litigation becomes necessary, David has achieved substantial success for clients as a litigator and trial lawyer in multifarious business and personal lawsuits. His expertise has helped clients secure and enforce judgments, negotiate favorable settlements as plaintiffs and defendants, and obtain emergency injunctive relief when faced with imminent threats.
Prior to joining the Firm, David was a partner and the managing attorney of the Washington, DC Office of a boutique law firm specializing in real estate finance and business litigation.
Garfunkel Wild Chairman Andrew Blustein and Partners David Traskey and David Morrissy, are quoted in the Law360 article, “Health Care Firm Garfunkel Wild Opens DC Office.”
