Robert Rothman joined Garfunkel Wild, P.C. in 2024. He is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group, which represents clients in all phases of civil litigation before both state and federal courts, as well as alternative dispute resolution bodies.

Immediately prior to joining the firm, Robert worked as a litigation associate for a New York City law firm where he engaged in all stages of commercial litigation from inception through trial, and handled commercial arbitration matters as well.  Previously, he worked as a litigation associate at a highly regarded insurance defense firm handling all aspects of litigation.

Robert has served as a mentor at New York Law School, as well as at his prior law firms, guiding mentees through all aspects of preparing for the New York State Bar Exam, subsequent job search activities, and the early stages of their legal careers. While in law school, he served as an editor on the Law Review, as well as a member of the Securities Arbitration Clinic where he represented retail investors against broker-dealers in a variety of financial related claims.

Update on New York’s Mandated Paid Prenatal Leave

On April 19, 2024, Governor Hochul signed an amendment to New York’s Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law (New York Labor Law § 196-b), also known as the Paid Prenatal Leave Law (the “Paid Leave”), that will require employers to provide at least 20 hours of paid leave in a 52-week period for pregnant employees to attend prenatal medical appointments and procedures. The New York State Department of Labor (“DOL”) released a Frequently Asked Questions (“FAQs”) that provides some clarity on employees’ rights and employers’ obligations under the amendment.
